spring-2022-capsule-recap-header

That’s a wrap on spring! However, before I say goodbye, I thought it would be neat to do a bit of a review. We’re talking about looking back at my goals, what items worked and didn’t work, and a few stats before a brief look at summer. Let’s get stuck into my spring 2022 capsule recap then!

GOALS RECAP

If you know me from my other blogs, you know I love a goal. The beauty of setting goals for a capsule wardrobe is that they don’t have to be done straight away. You have a whole season to think about them! Here’s a quick reflection on the goals I set for spring.

Get dressed every weekday

DONE. I mean, obviously, I didn’t wear my Sunday best every day but I did put on an outfit most days. My jersey joggers got the most wear out of them (in fact, a couple of pairs need replacing now) and I wore my slogan T-shirts multiple times each.

Accessorise more

FAIL. Because I left the house even less than I thought I would, I didn’t accessorise much at all. I did use my handbags frequently and found the two baseball caps that I bought last summer though.

Sort through my outerwear

FAIL. This is a no because I just couldn’t be bothered. I barely wore any outerwear items, apart from two jackets and a waterproof coat.

Sort through my summer clothing

DONE. It turns out I barely had any summer clothing in storage at all, just a couple of vests and shorts. I went through them and I still like them all. Easiest declutter of my life!

Upgrade my base layers

FAIL. Because I wanted to add a few summer pieces, I opted to pull this goal forward. I won’t need these base layers until autumn so I’ll buy them during the summer instead.

Update Stylebook daily

DONE. This app has changed the way I view my wardrobe. I can see my most used pieces at a quick glance without having to open up my wardrobe tracker spreadsheet!

Limit my purchases

FAIL. I made 19 purchases throughout spring. It seems like a lot but I’ll explain later on what items I added.

WHAT WORKED

The next order of business is to share a couple of pointers as to which items really worked in my spring 2022 wardrobe recap. Being a casual dresser, it could’ve been tricky but there were a couple of themes that I noticed.

Jersey joggers

Although I didn’t include them in my actual capsule, I wore them the most throughout spring. I work from home so cannot sit in jeans all day because they’re too uncomfortable. My jersey joggers (4 pairs) were worn a total of 50 times, with my regular joggers worn 38 times (4 pairs). However, I have since gotten rid of 2 pairs of regular joggers and added in another pair.

Black boyfriend jeans

Other than my jersey joggers, these were my most worn bottom-half items. I took them on a 5 day trip to London and wore them most days. I’ve been enjoying a looser fit of jeans lately and these are much more comfortable than a pair of skinny jeans. However, I think I’ll take them out for my summer wardrobe because they’re very thick.

Pink T-shirts

I included 3 in my capsule, added two more and wore 2 more from storage. It’s strange because I always say I don’t really like the colour pink yet it turns out I wear it quite a lot (and not just on Wednesdays).

Tan shades

I also found myself reaching for tan shades often. I find they’re great for adding a different colour to an outfit without really adding a colour. It’s usually a shade I go for bags and shoes because it goes with so much. However, tan T-shirts seem to be a new find for me too!

WHAT DIDN’T WORK

Whilst I had some successes, some items just didn’t work. Here are a couple of items from my spring 2022 capsule recap that I just didn’t get along with!

Loungewear sets

I thought I’d wear them tonnes because I did during the winter. Turns out spring was a bit warmer than anticipated and I didn’t wear either set that I added at the last minute.

Indigo/dark-wash jeans

I seemed to gravitate towards grey, black and light wash denim as it felt like it went with more top-half items. My indigo and dark-wash jeans are a bit thicker too so I didn’t really reach for them at all.

Long-sleeved T-shirts

Once again, I included seven and wore them a total of eight times altogether (six of them just once and one of them twice). I should’ve included less in the hope of wearing them more!

Sweatshirts

There were four sweatshirts that I didn’t even wear so that wasted four perfectly good spots! It just wasn’t cold enough for a typical spring which I had planned in my head!

LESSONS LEARNED

It’s important for me to reflect on what went well and what didn’t go so well so here are a couple of lessons learned in my spring 2022 capsule recap.

Actual spring is warmer than planned spring

I can’t believe how warm it’s been this year and thanks to climate change, it will only get warmer. My idea of spring is my winter wardrobe with more short sleeves.

Add in more plain tops

All of my short-sleeved T-shirts are slogan tees. I love them but they do feel juvenile at times. I need to add a selection of basic tops in neutral colours, preferably scoop/V-neck in silky cotton material.

Light coloured bottom-half items are needed

All of the trousers I included were all dark washes, apart from some grey relaxed skinnies. When the weather improved, I was literally sweating in most of them! I definitely need to find some lighter-coloured options for summer!

Invest in comfy shoes

Whilst I didn’t include shoes in my spring capsule, it gave me a chance to assess my entire collection. I tried to wear as many pairs as I could out of the house so I could decide if I wanted to keep them. I now prioritise comfort over style so I’ve managed to throw an old pair of flats away and added 3 pairs of shoes to my Sell pile.

I also pulled seven T-shirts from storage and wore them each just once.

LOOKING FORWARD TO SUMMER

Because I bought 19 new items in spring, I’ll be trying to limit the amount I buy during summer. However, I’ve already bought 5 items, although I think two will be getting returned! I know I want to update my basic T-shirts and vests so will be on the lookout for quality base layers. I’ve got my eye on some white leather trainers and a new pair of sandals too. Also, I’ve noticed that my underwear drawer is looking a little shabby so getting new underwear is high on the agenda!

I enjoyed wrapping up my spring 2022 capsule recap so I hope you did too! There’s something so therapeutic about looking back before planning the next capsule. Next week, I’ll be sharing my wardrobe for summer 2022! Follow me on Instagram where I hope to be sharing soon!
