Welcome to the very first blog post on The Realistic Minimalist! I’m excited to share my minimalism journey with you all but first, I thought I’d do a little introduction post about what to expect from The Realistic Minimalist.

Minimalism is personal

Whilst I’ll be provided a tonne of tips and tricks I’ve learned about minimalism, organisation and decluttering, it won’t work for everyone. For me, minimalism is not about getting rid of every single item you own. It’s about making the most of what you have, keeping what you need and being mindful of what you buy.

Organisation

I’m really big on staying organised and am always trying new ways to keep on top of everything. From storing items in the home to finding a weekly planning system that works for you, I’ve become a bit of a nerd when it comes to organisation!

Decluttering

If you own a lot of stuff, you should declutter. However, you don’t have to throw away everything. I enjoy decluttering and the process of getting rid of something that no longer serves me or that I no longer use. I still collect stuff: stationery, beauty products etc but these are items I use and love.

Being intentional

Think, plan, do is my motto in life, especialy with minimalism. In fact, intention goes hand in hand with minimalism. Now I have less stuff, I take better care of it, I have more time to do what I en joy and apply minimalism to my entire life.

Realistic minimalism

As soon as you say you’re a minimalist, people think you own just 50 items and nothing else. I’m hear to share my journey through what I call ‘realistic minimalism’. Do I own less stuff than I used to? Absolutely. Do I still spend money on items I don’t really need? Yes. I’m still not going to get rid of everything I own.

What to expect

Minimalism has and still is a messy journey for me. This blog is designed to share that journey but with some useful how-to guides and tips along the way. The four main topics will be minimalism, organisation, decluttering and capsule wardrobes. I feel like all four fit well together and are of great interest to me too.

There you have it, what to expect from The Realistic Minimalist. I’ll try to post twice a week but that may vary when my business gets busy at times! If you want to keep up with my minimalist life, give me a follow on Twitter or Instagram!
